
O N 25 October i830, five gentlemen of high local standing met in the Hanbury Arms, Caerleon, in the county of Monmouthshire. The purpose of their meeting was to discuss proposals for the establishment of a local Savings Bank. As a result of their deliberations, they came to the conclusion: That the establishment of a Savings Bank in accordance with Act 9. Geo. iv. Cap. 92, in the town of Caerleon will be of great benefit to the industrious persons in the neighbourhood.'
