Abstract

A presenca de dentes ectopicos e impactados atinge 1,7% da populacao, sendo o canino superior o 2o dente mais acometido. A decisao de manter ou extrair o elemento dentario inclui fatores como a idade, posicionamento (grau de angulacao), disponibilidade de espaco no arco, proximidade das raizes dos incisivos laterais, presenca de lesao patologica ou reabsorcao, dilaceracao radicular e anquilose. A idade tem influencia direta na decisao de extrair o dente incluso devido a sua relacao com o pico de reabsorcao, ou seja, apos certa idade decisoes mais conservadoras podem ser tomadas devido a atenuacao de morbidades. Paralelo a isso, e possivel visualizar uma relacao entre idade e duracao do tratamento ortodontico, uma vez que em idades mais avancadas – superior a 30 anos, o osso apresenta maior densidade, afetando a previsibilidade do tracionamento. Desta forma, o objetivo e fazer uma revisao da literatura sobre os parâmetros ortodonticos utilizados para o tracionamento, auxiliando desta maneira na tomada de decisao quanto a manutencao ou exodontia da unidade dentaria. Para tal, as bases de dado Pubmed e Scielo foram utilizadas com os descritores ortodontia, dente impactado e extracao dentaria, dispondo a partir disto das literaturas que demonstraram satisfazer a proposta do trabalho. A decisao do tratamento deve levar em consideracao uma serie de fatores para obter um melhor desfecho clinico. E imprescindivel a atuacao de uma equipe interdisciplinar, incluindo o cirurgiao oral e ortodontista, de forma a restaurar a estetica e funcao, determinando alem disso qual o melhor procedimento cirurgico ou mecânica a ser utilizada e, consequentemente, alcancar resolutividade no caso.
