This paper examines and explores the social practices of mobile phone users that reflect their every day use of present day mobile communications technologies. It discusses the ways that these practices can be incorporated into technology planning for 3G/UMTS to enable the development of solutions that more closely match user expectations. The paper cites research conducted by DWRC for the UMTS Forum between 2002 and 2004.
