This group of esophageal tumors include a variety of unusual and rare neoplasms [1]. The majority are primary mahgnant tumors; polypoid carcinoma, mahgnant melanoma, oat ceh carcinoma, etc. Squamous papilloma is a benign tumor. Metastatic carcinoma to the esophagus is also a rare occurrence. Different histogenetic origins have been attributed to these uncommon tumors: squamous epithehal for polypoid carcinoma, neuroendocrine for oat ceh carcinoma or melanocytic for mahgnant melanoma. The relevant hterature consists essentially of single case reports, with few pubhshed series, the latter mainly from Japan [5, 6, 8]. Hence, it is often difficult to meaningfuhy assess data on the incidence, chnical aspects, histopathological features, response to treatment and patients survival. The classification, cell origin and terminology of these rare tumors of the esophagus have also been the subject of much controversy.
