An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Peris-sodactyla: Rhinocerotidae; larvae and nymphs have been collected from Rodentia: Muridae.Adults alone have been recovered from Mammalia (several orders), with a rare record from Squamata: Varanidae. Dermacentor rhinocerinus is a very rare parasite of humans.
