Sogana longiceps Fennah

Authors: Liang, Ai-Ping; Wang, Rong-Rong;
Abstract

Sogana longiceps Fennah (Fig. 4) Sogana longiceps Fennah, 1978: 262 –263, figs. 219–226; Chou et al., 1985: 40, fig. 36. Holotype ♂, Vietnam (deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw) [not examined]. Diagnosis. Length (from apex of vertex to tip of fore wings): ď 8.8 mm, Ψ 9.3–11.0 mm. General color ochraceous-green or ochraceous; vertex with a blackish spot at apex, intercarinal areas suffused with fuscous, lateral margins and sublateral carinae dull orange red. Frons with 6 pairs of reddish transverse bands. Fore wings milky-hyaline, with brownish nebula apically. Legs with fore and middle femora with a diffuse ring near apex, tibiae with fuscous suffusion at base, hind femora with incomplete fuscous stripes. Vertex with anterior margin projected at an obtuse angle in dorsal view, lateral areas depressed; median carina protruding forward from base to the level of eyes. Fore wings with 18 apical cells and 7 subapical cells, two middle anteapical cells equally long. Spines of hind legs: hind tibia laterally 3, distally 7, basitarsus distally 7. Male genitalia with pygofer more or less broad, with dorsolateral angles produced, obtusely angulate. Anal tube elongate, narrow, parallel-sided, dorsally sulcate in distal half, apically transverse-convex. Gonostylus elongate, apical margin very oblique; with two short stout spinose processes, one directed mesad, the other laterad, on dorsal margin at two-thirds from base. Aedeagus long, with endosama abruptly expanded into a subcircular plate apically, microdenticulate along its less deeply rounded edge; apex of aedeagus comprising a small horizontal lobe dorsally and a stout heavily-pigmented triangular lobe, denticulate along its upper margin, a short distance below it. (After Fennah, 1978). Material examined. VIETNAM: 1Ψ, Tonkin, Hoa-Binn, no date (A. de Cooman) (IZCAS). CHINA: 1Ψ, Guangxi, Huanjiang County, Mulun, 370 m, 24. VII. 2006 (J. Liu) (IZCAS). Distribution. China (Guangdong, Guangxi), Vietnam (Hanoi, Tonkin). Remarks. This species was described by Fennah (1978) from northern Vietnam on the basis of one male specimen. Chou et al. (1985) recorded it from Guangdong in southern China. This species can be distinguished from other known species in the genus by the vertex with median carina protruding forward from base to the level of eyes (see Fennah, 1978, Fig. 220) and the fore wings with two middle anteapical cells equally long and the fore wings with nebula dark brown (see Fennah, 1978, Fig. 222).
