Publisher Summary This chapter discusses Exopterygota, which is a division of the class Insecta in the phylum Arthropoda. The orders of insects in this division have wings that develop externally during the maturation of the larva, which is variously referred to as a larva, nymph, or naiad. There are two superorders in this division: the Orthopteroidea, which includes the orders Blattodea, Dermaptera, Embiidina, Grylloblattodea, Isoptera, Mantodea, Mantophasmatodea, Orthoptera, Phasmatodea, and Plecoptera; and the Hemipteroidea, which includes Hemiptera, Phthiraptera, Psocoptera, Thysanoptera, and Zoraptera.
