Abstract

Analyse de l'«Epigramme» 1.70 de Martial decrivant le voyage d'un livre personnifie sur le mont Palatin, visitant la maison du mythique Proculus. Utilisant un moyen poetique tres repandu dans la litterature romaine, Martial offre un portrait de Rome et en decrit les monuments d'architecture. Mesurant l'influence de poemes topographiques plus anciens et soulignant l'allusion particuliere a Ovide, l'A. propose une lecture du texte de Martial qui met en evidence sa fonction de patronage, precisement l'incapacite de l'auteur a remplir ses obligations de client, et qui montre que le poeme s'adresse non pas a Proculus, mais a Domitien
