Criados y movilidad de la población rural en la Castilla interior del siglo XVIII

Abstract

Cada vez más somos conscientes de la importancia que tenían los movimientos de población para comprender a las sociedades rurales en el Antiguo Régimen. El servicio doméstico en su más amplia acepción (criados de propio servicio, sirvientes de labor, de ganado, aprendices, etc.) fue una vía más que sirvió para alimentar los desplazamientos en el pasado. Porque la distancia no era un impedimento para servir. Primero en las granjas y casas de campo próximas de los grandes hacendados. Pero también no era difícil sobrepasar la comarca o la región de procedencia. Incluso el país. La pregunta es ¿cuál era el origen de los criados? ¿Qué grado de preeminencia ejercía la ciudad sobre el mundo rural circundante? ¿Su importancia numérica era notable? ¿Cuáles eran las trayectorias y los ritmos de evolución de los sirvientes en el tiempo?

El presente trabajo forma parte del proyecto de investigación: “Familia, curso de vida y reproducción social en la España centro-meridional, 1700-1860”, referencia HAR2010-21325-C05-03, del que el autor es Investigador Principal y ha sido posible gracias a la financiación concedida por el Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación
