Results of analysis of stratigraphic schemes of Paleocene and Eocene deposits of the Northern Peri-Black Sea Depression and adjacent parts of the Ukrainian Shield and Azov Massif are presented. It was found that these schemes are differing by the degree of elaboration the regional and local stratigraphic parts. The ways and tasks for these stratigraphic schemes modernization have been defined. The main areas of modernization of Paleocene and Eocene deposits of the Northern Peri-Black Sea Depression and adjacent parts of the Ukrainian Shield and Azov Massif are the following: use of a modern International Stratigraphic Scale and an updated Regional Scale of the Paleogene the Southern Ukraine; composition of the local stratigraphic schemes from the mapping stratigraphic units (formation, strata, member, beds) according the Stratigraphic Code of Ukraine; actualization the lithological and paleontological characteristic of local stratigraphic units. In the stratigraphic scheme of Paleocene and Eocene deposits of the Northern Peri-Black Sea Region the regional scale of Paleogene the Southern Ukraine is used. This scheme has its own nomenclature of local stratigraphic units (formations, strata, members). The task of this stratigraphic scheme modernization is transfer the beds with fauna (special biostratigraphic units according to the Startigraphic Code of Ukraine) to the category of local stratigraphic units – the beds and redescription them. For further development the stratigraphic scheme of Paleocene and Eocene deposits of slopes the Ukrainian Shield and Azov Massif, adjacent to the Northern Peri-Black Sea Region, it is necessary to work out the own local units nomenclature of this scheme and to define the spatiotemporal correlation of these local units with those of the Northern Peri-Black Sea region.
