Abstract

A industria ferroviaria recebe constante influencia da inovacao e grande parte das inovacoes desenvolvidas na industria ferroviaria e incremental e visa, principalmente, ganho de produtividade. Partindo desse pressuposto, este artigo objetiva verificar como a inovacao pode impactar nas atividades de uma empresa no segmento de transporte ferroviario de cargas. Metodologicamente, trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, bibliografica com abordagem qualitativa e estudo de caso realizado na Ferrovia Tereza Cristina S.A. Para as iniciativas inovadoras, foram elencadas acoes que a empresa considerava inovadora, como o vagao de plastico, sistema e tecnologia, transporte de conteineres e carretinha para transporte de trilhos. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionario enviado via e-mail ao gerente de manutencao e transporte da empresa em estudo, responsavel pelo projeto do eco-vagao. Os resultados apontam que a implantacao do eco-vagao reduziu os custos com manutencao anual em 15%, visto que a vida util do vagao triplicou e aumentou a produtividade em 1,5 toneladas de carga util por vagao. Da mesma forma, reduziu o impacto ambiental, com a utilizacao de material reciclado na construcao dos vagoes, evitando a derrubada de duas arvores por vagao construido, alem de reduzir o risco de contaminacao, por vazamento e o ruido no processo de descarga.
