Abstract

Brachymeria kassalensis (Kirby, 1886) Chalcis kassalensis KIRbY 1886: 36. ORIgINAL DESCRIpTION ♂. KASSALA. Brachymeria kassalensis (KIRbY): MASI 1951: 42; BOUčEk 1956: 228; PRINSLOO 1980: 161; NARENDRAN 1989: 261. Material examined. Type material. Lectotype, here designated, a ♂ on a minutien pin, the unique specimen with this original labelling ' kassalensis type [manuscript] / Kirby 2/83 / Chalcis kassal Kirby / type [BMNH format] / B.M. TYPE HYM 5.147' (in BMNH). Other material. IRAN: Alborz, Kordan, Deh Varde, loc. 2, 20.vi.2012, (1 ♂) (in JIAU); same data, 20.viii.2012 (1 ♀ 1 ♂) (in CIRAD, GDEL0356 and GDEL0364); Fars, Larestan, loc. 3, 09.iv.2113, (1 ♀ 3 ♂♂) (in CIRAD: GDEL0377 and JIAU); Fars, Fasa, loc. 7, 15.vi.2013, (1 ♂) (in JIAU). Distribution. Mostly Old-World tropics but also reaching the Palaearctic region. The CIRAD received for identification a number of specimens from Chad, Burkina Faso and Togo. New for the Iranian fauna. Hosts. Several lepidopterous pests mostly belonging to macrolepidoptera such as Sphingidae, Nymphalidae, Hesperiidae, Lymantriidae and Noctuidae (Noyes 2017).
