Abstract

In the doctoral thesis "The cultural trajectory during the Holocene at the site of El Portalón de Cueva Mayor, Sierra de Atapuerca, Burgos", the aim was to understand and describe in detail the processes that gave rise to the archaeo-stratigraphic formation of the site. The archaeological sequence comprises from more than 7000 years BP until the Middle Age, a time period in which the site was occupied practically continuously. From a general and, at the same time, pragmatic perspective, the contributions of this site to the knowledge of the societies of recent prehistory are studied. We stablish not only their chronology, material culture and the different uses of the occupied space, but also the relationships established with other populations and regions (circulation of products and technology, exchange networks, circulation of ideas, etc.), over both, short and long distances and/or the discrepancies maintained between them.
