A semi-empirical method for the calculation of the electronic structure of glass

Abstract

A simple semi-empirical method for calculation of the electronic structure of oxide glasses is suggested. The conception of the glassforming quasicomplex unit is introduced and the calculations of quasicomplexes for vitreous silica and germania are carried out. The result of the calculations enables us to explain a number of spectroscopic properties of oxide glasses. Eine einfache halbempirische Methode zur Berechnung der Elektronenstruktur von Oxidglasern wird vorgeschlagen. Der Begriff des glasbildenden Quasikomplexes wird eingefuhrt. Fur glasartiges Germanium und Silizium werden die Quasikomplexe berechnet. Die Ergebnisse ermoglichen die Erklarung einer Reihe von spektroskopischen Eigenschaften von Oxidglasern.
