AbstractThe Spanish government granted the permission for offshore oil explorations to the East of the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in 2012. This authorization raises a potential conflict with Morocco, since a bilateral treaty that fixes the limits of the respective exclusive economic zones of countries in those waters is absent. The response given by the new Moroccan Islamic government allow us to suppose an implied acceptance of the distribution of those waters into equidistant areas.
