En este artículo se reflexionará sobre la respuesta de los jóvenes musulmanes de Madrid a los atentados del 11 de marzo de 2004. Estos jóvenes, motivados por temor a represalias y por la intención de dar a conocer su modo de entender el islam y el significado de ser musulmán, decidieron revitalizar asociaciones existentes o crear otras nuevas mediante las que buscar un lugar desde el que participar social y políticamente. Para conocer la naturaleza y las características de esta respuesta se describirá en primer lugar a los miembros y las dinámicas del nuevo asociacionismo musulmán surgido desde la conmoción y contradicción personal entre lo que estos jóvenes musulmanes entendían por ‘ser musulmán’ y lo que los medios de comunicación decían y mostraban en esos días sobre “los musulmanes”. Posteriormente se analizará el sentido de la participación y espacio social ocupado por estas asociaciones.AbstractIn this article, I will reflect about the reaction of young Muslims from Madrid toward the march 11 2004 bombings. This reaction was preceded by the fear of reprisals as well as by the intention of showing their way of understanding Islam and Muslim concepts and attitudes. These two triggers motivated the revitalization and creation of associations under the idea of finding a place to claim in the social and political arena. To know the nature and features of this reaction, I will describe the new Muslim associations flourished behind the shock and personal contradiction between their meaning of ‘being a Muslim’ and the images of Muslim attitudes showed by mass media during those days. Moreover, I will analyse the meaning of their participation and social place taken up by them.
