Abstract

Elasmosomus bacillus (Candèze, 1881) Dilobitarsus bacillus Candèze, 1881: 3. Type de l’Abyssinie (IRSNB?). Elasmosomus bacillus ¢ Schwarz 1902: 214. 2 individus: Lamotte, Amiet et Vanderplaetsen, 1956-1957. MATÉRIEL EXAMINÉ. — Nimba: Ziéla, U. V., 28.III.1957. DISTRIBUTION. — L’espèce est décrite d’après des exemplaires provenant de l’Abyssinie, mais elle se trouve aussi dans des régions plus méridionales comme la Tanzanie, le Malawi, et l’ex-Zaïre au Kivu et au Shaba (Katanga). On la connaît aussi de l’Afrique occidentale, de la Côte d’Ivoire et de la Guinée notamment. Toutefois, ces individus se distinguent assez nettement de ceux de l’Afrique orientale par leur habitus moins robuste, le pronotum moins large en avant, ses côtés moins sinués près des angles postérieurs, et ses tubercules moins gros et moins saillants. Ces populations de l’Afrique occidentale constituent peut-être une race particulière qui mériterait certainement d’être distinguée lorsque les espèces seront révisées. ÉCOLOGIE. — L’espèce n’est jamais commune et elle se capture le plus souvent d’une manière épisodique, toujours au piège lumineux.
