Bollettino Sismico Italiano (BSI)

Abstract

The Italian Seismic Bulletin (BSI) is the catalog of parameters of hypocentral locations and magnitudes of seismic events recorded by stations of the National Seismic Network (RSN) of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and by regional and international networks managed by other institutions. The BSI was established in the 1980s and is a product of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. It is based on the work of a group of seismologist analysts who review the arrival times of seismic phases, polarities, and seismic signal amplitudes on seismograms to calculate the hypocenter and magnitude of recorded events. The BSI contains parameters of earthquakes located in Italy and border areas. The BSI Working Group periodically publishes detailed information on Italian seismicity through four-months reports and articles in national and international journals. Since 2015, the BSI also provides focal mechanisms of earthquakes, calculated from the first arrivals.
