Abstract

La Colección de peces del Instituto de Ciencias Naturales fue fundada por Cecil Miles en 1942 bajo resolución de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Posteriormente fue vinculado George Dahl en 1957 como profesor de ictiología y curador de la colección, luego es recibida por Plutarco Cala cerca de 1971 cuando este regresa de culminar su doctorado, Cala es el primer curador que inicia el proceso de catalogar en fisico los lotes. Posteriormente la colección es encargada al profesor Germán Galvis y finalmente está a cargo de el profesor José Iván Mojica hasta estos días. La colección es una de las mas grandes del país y que continen un acervo en el tiempo y la historia del país como ejemplo de esto es la que reguarda el holotipo de la unica especie de pez extinta que tiene el país, especie colectada y descrita por el primer curador (Cecil Miles).
