Type specimens are extremely crucial for taxonomic studies as they form the backbone for species nomenclature. BNHS houses a good collection of type specimens, especially for reptiles and amphibians which is growing frequently. The current dataset consists of 267 occurrence records for type specimens of various reptiles including 175 lizards and 92 snakes collected from India and nearby countries. Verbatim location information and decimal coordinates are also provided for almost the entire dataset.
