VIT herbarium-Vasculars (Ferns and Phanerogams) contains ca. 139.000 sheets belonging to ca. 9.650 taxones. It contains 119 types. 70% of this collection is computerized. It was founded in 1975 by Pedro Uribe-Echebarría and Luis Antonio Pérez de Heredia, most of its specimens have been collected since then, but it also holds two historical herbaria, one dating from the XVIIIth century (Lorenzo Prestamero's herbarium) and the other from the XIXth century (José María de Lacoizqueta's herbarium).
