Abstract

La fauna que habita el bosque seco ha desarrollado una serie de estrategias que les permiten sobrevivir a las altas temperaturas y reproducirse en ambientes secos donde la disponibilidad de agua es limitada y fluctuante, además de la alta competencia que caracteriza a los bosques secos tropicales; de ahí que se presentan muchos endemismos, en especial en los anfibios por sus requerimientos ecológicos, entre estos, su elevada dependencia del recurso hídrico. La amplia diversidad faunística, así como la importante concentración de endemismos hace que estos bosques presenten altísima prioridad para la conservación. Los estudios sobre la fauna de los bosques secos tropicales en Colombia son incipientes, desconociéndose gran parte de la biodiversidad que los integra. Adicionalmente, estos ecosistemas a nivel nacional presentan un estado crítico de fragmentación y deterioro, y por ende su biodiversidad corre el riesgo inminente de desaparecer; por lo que se hace necesario incrementar los conocimientos sobre este componente, lo cual permita diseñar estrategias óptimas para la conservación de tan importante recurso. Este apartado contiene los aspectos metodológicos específicos para cada grupo faunístico, aplicados ´para el levantamiento de información en campo y los resultados relacionados con su composición, estructura y estado de conservación.
