The paleontology dataset contains all registered paleontological specimens of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center (Leiden, Netherlands), excluding the Caenozoic mollusca, which has been published at GBIF as another dataset . Datasets of parts of the Naturalis paleontology collection that have been published before at GBIF are fully incorporated in this dataset. These published subcollections at Naturalis are the following: Paleobotany (https://doi.org/10.15468/rns2vl), Paleontology Invertebrates (https://doi.org/10.15468/qjqpob), Micropaleontology (https://doi.org/10.15468/utqe8q) and will be deactivated soon. The specimens come from the former National Museum of Geology and Mineralogy (RGM; Rijksmuseum voor Geologie en Mineralogie) and National Museum of Natural History (RMNH; Rijksmuseum voor Natuurlijke Historie), later National Museum of Natural History, which is now Naturalis.
