Lesões cervicais não-cariosas: abordagem histórica, características clínicas, hipersensibilidade dentinária e tratamento

Abstract

Non-Carious Cervical Lesions (NCCL) is the name given to cervical defects caused by the loss of dental tissue in the cemento-enamel junction. They can be classified as abfraction, erosion or abrasion. There are several etiological factors for these lesions; it can be said that they have a multifactorial origin. The clinical characteristics of this type of lesions are similiar. The knowledge of their differences, the most afected tooth and the patient habits take an important role in the correct diagnosis. Often these pathologies are associated with dentin-hypersensivity which leads to the very well-known tooth sensibility, except when the dentin, due to it’s own mechanisms, ocludes the dentin tubes. This hypersensivity is characterized by a fast and lacerating pain, in reponse to a stimuli, usualy cold. There are many types of treatments to NCCL and hypersensivity, among which the topical application of substances which aims pain relief, a wide range of restorative material, depending on the type, form and etiology of injuries, as well as periodontal surgery which aims to help both the aesthetic level as physiological. Through this literature review, is intended to address the diferente characteristics of NCCL as well as dentin hypersensivity and it’s possible treatments. A literature search was performed using search engines as “PubMed/MedLine”, “SciELO”, “B-on”, “Academic Google” e “EBSCO” with the following key words: "dental abfraction", "dental abfraction & occlusion", "Dental erosion," "dental abrasion", "Erosion & abrasion", "non-carious servical lesions "," NCCL treatment ", "tooth wear "and" dentin hypersensitivity ". The result of research was 135 articles of which were selected 76.
