DESIGN OF A WIND FARM AND STUDY OF ITS ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY

Abstract

[EN] The aim of this final degree project is to design a wind farm in the province of Valencia (Spain) which is adjusted to Spain¿s targets related to renewable energy (PNIEC, 2021). Moreover, the framework of energy and climate policy in Spain is determined by the European Union (EU) which responds to the requirements of the Paris Agreement reached in 2015 to provide an international response to the challenge of the climate crisis (COM, 2016) according to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; concretely, goal 7 which refers to Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. According to PNIEC (2021:12), it is expected that the total installed capacity in the electricity sector in Spain by 2030 will be 161 GW; 50 GW of this amount will be wind energy. Nevertheless, despite Spain has accomplished its objectives related to renewable energy in 2020 (In press, 2021), there still are some improvements that can be made in order to achieve the goals proposed in the different regions of the country. In fact, Valencia is placed in the MW average (AEE, 2022) with 1.238,78 MW, but due to its population density, its economic power, and its environmental characteristics it is a good option to install a wind farm. For this reason, this project focuses on establishing a wind farm in Valencia ¿ concretely, Alto de Santa María (Chiva)¿ and all that it implies. First of all, a literature review to know the state of art about the topic (§ 2). Secondly, the project statement to know which are our requirements, where are we going to set up the wind farm and technical stuff (§3). Thirdly, all the calculations needed to allow the study of the economic feasibility. Finally, we will use the Canadian program called RETScreen to calculate with the information taken before, if it would be a good inversion.
