Labat, Silhouette, Peyron y Bourgoing recogieron en sus relatos de viaje numerosas observaciones realizadas durante el periodo de tiempo que permanecieron en España. Los dos primeros visitaron el país de manera fugaz, mientras que los dos últimos disfrutaron de una estancia dilatada. Esa diferencia no fue óbice para que todos ellos repararan en algunas bibliotecas españolas que percibieron como muestra de erudición y deseo de divulgación cultural. Fueran públicas o privadas, conventuales o laicas, estas bibliotecas despertaron el interés de los citados viajeros franceses del siglo XVIII por cuestiones variopintas tales como la identidad de sus poseedores, las características de sus fondos, la ubicación, la decoración o los horarios de apertura de dichos espacios. 

In their travel tales, Labat, Silhouette, Peyron and Bourgoing include nu- merous reections they made while staying in Spain. The former two visited the country briey, whereas the latter two enjoyed a long stay. Yet that difference did not prevent any of them from noticing some Spanish libraries, which they perceived as a sign of erudition and as a desire for cultural dissemination. Whether public or private, con- ventual or secular, those libraries awoke the interest of the aforementioned French eighteenth-century travellers for various reasons, such as the identity of their owners, the characteristics of their book collections, their location, their ornamentation or the opening hours of those libraries.
