
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental disorders in the United States, especially among women. Most patients with anxiety seek treatment from primary care physicians; therefore, recognition and treatment of anxiety disorders are important functions of the primary care physician. Anxiety disorders include, but are not limited to, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia, posttraumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
