
The review presents data on the history of the discovery of tumor suppressor genes (antioncogenes) and the new data on their mapping and cloning. Special attention is given to the mechanisms of retinoblastoma and p53 gene action, their role in the regulation of cell proliferation and malignant growth inhibition.
