[Ensure treatment for IUGR].

Abstract

A prospective study on Ensure and amino acid infusion treatment for IUGR was carried out in 1989 and 1990 in PUMC Hospital. The patients were divided into two groups. Subjects in group 1 received Ensure, and those in group 2 received amino acid treatment. Each group included 40 subjects. The incidence of SGA was found to decrease from 2.18% in 1989 to 1.59% in 1990. The cure rate of IUGR reached 41.7% and 21.9% in groups 1 and 2, respectively. The average birth weights were 2,820g and 2,656g in groups 1 and 2 (t = 19.15, P < 0.001), respectively. Our conclusion is that Ensure is an effective nutritional drug for treatment of IUGR.
