
About each forth patient consulting a general practitioner because of any health problem suffers from a sexual dysfunction since longer time. The criterion for the necessity of treatment of sexual dysfunctions are caused by psychosocial factors. A good and exact exploration of the sexual symptoms provides informations both for psychological and organic causes of the dysfunction. One part of sexual dysfunctions can be improved by sexual counselling, if possible including the spouse/partner of the patient. If there are more severe conflicts, the indication for sexual, couple or individual psychotherapy has to be clarified. In addition to the medical treatment, there exist several suitable books of sexual information which can be recommended to the patients.
