Triangulation is a research method that strengthens the validity of research results by using a variety of research approaches. Five approaches are discussed in this article and consist of multiple investigators, theories, data sources, methods, research designs, and data analysis. For increased understanding, these approaches are applied to the concept of pain. Suggestions are given for postanesthesia patient and nursing research topics that could be studied using the triangulation process.
