Large breasts cause problems mainly because of physical discomfort and/or associated emotional problems, and surgery is sought primarily for these rather than for purely cosmetic reasons. Indications for carrying out a breast reduction are given, and important questions are posed and answered to help elucidate many of the factors pertaining to the operation. The overall results that can be expected as well as the possible complications are discussed. A table listing complications in a series of 50 patients is shown. In conclusion, the degree of patient satisfaction that can be expected is briefly discussed.
