Thallium-201 is a promising intravenous imaging agent for observing myocardial perfusion patterns. It appears to be the best of the currently available cation tracers for regional myocardial perfusion imaging, because it has overcome many of the disadvantages associated with other potassium analogues. Although its many possible uses will require further research and verification, 201Tl will play an increasing part in the assessment of patients with ischemic heart disease.
