This research explores, through qualitative methodology, the vital experiences of informal caregivers of dependent elderly people. An ethnographic study has been designed to respond to the research objective. The field of study was a day center for dependent elderly. We completed data collection with interviews with family caregivers of day center users and professionals involved in the care, as well as participant observation. The main contribution of this work is the identification of an emerging informal caregiver profile that is not the main protagonist in the provision of care to the dependent person. This caregiver acts in coordination with social and health services, as well as with other members of his own family, giving rise to a combined care model. The characteristic of this model is that formal and informal care are combined more equitably to care for the dependent. However, the social system still does not cover all the needs of the dependent and his family. Therefore, although family members are aware of the idea of receiving help from external resources, the reality is that they do not always access them, being overwhelmed when trying to maintain the care of the dependent.
