Jocs i avalots

Authors: Raya Sánchez, Daniel;
Abstract

[eng] Jocs i Avalots [Toys and Riots] is a series of toys that serve to reflect on massive and violent events. These are toys that represent different characters and elements who participate during demonstrations, riots and police repression. For the production of the necessary devices, I worked in two different formats with a children's product appearance. First, the reproduction of characters is made with plastic figurines, referencing the «cowboys and indians» and the classic «plastic soldier». In this case, the set of «soldiers» recreate multiple roles and attitudes that occur in these conflict situations: passive o aggressive protesters, anti-riot units in defensive position or attacking. Then, these toys are complemented by cutouts of police vans, ambulances, other vehicles and urban’s furniture. The game format helps to make a distance between us and the protagonists of the events. The reduced scale toys allows us to observe the facts in perspective, while the imaginative game gives us tools to (re)build our own subjective experience.
