Tratamiento con láser para la onicomicosis

Abstract

La onicomicosis es la infección micótica que causa la afección ungueal más frecuente llegando a afectar del 2-18% de la población mundial. Los fármacos antifúngicos tanto tópicos como sistémicos han sido el pilar del tratamiento durante muchos años pero recae sobre ellos una elevada tasa de fracaso terapéutico. Son tratamientos largos que pueden ocasionar diversos factores secundarios además de no garantizar la fidelización del paciente con el tratamiento. Estas limitaciones han llevado a la investigación de la terapia con láser, pudiendo ser una modalidad de tratamiento seguro sin presentar los inconvenientes de los fármacos. En esta revisión bibliográfica se proporcionará una visión general de la onicomicosis incluyendo su tratamiento convencional, además de establecer una valoración de la terapia láser, describiendo su funcionamiento y eficacia en el tratamiento de la onicomicosis
