Simulación de accesibilidad con un editor web

Abstract

The project consists in integrating disability simulation tools in a web editor. In this case it has been opted by the editor AlloyEditor, a variant of CKEditor. The objective of the project is that the person who introduces contents in a blog can view it as it would do a person with low vision or dyslexia or other disabilities and so be more aware of the difficulties that have the people with disabilities. Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can make use of the web. Web accessibility consists in that people with disability can perceive, understand, navigate and interact with the web. The disabilities that are related with access to the web are diverse, and among them there are visual, auditory, motor and cognitive. With the web people with disability can do several things without having to depend on others. For example both the blind and those with cognitive disabilities can read the newspaper through screen readers that read text aloud. People who can not speak can participate in discussions, such as through comments made on blogs, etc. The project has added a toolbar to the editor; where the buttons to activate distraction, disable events, remove style, screen reader and filters apply a given simulation of disability on editable content. In the case of button “insert video”, when selected it opens a window where it applies three simulations of disability and on the other hand there is a “preview mode” button and “edition mode” button. Some of the simulations that apply are: visually impaired, hearing impaired and cognitive disabilities. In the case of visual impairment, it performs the following simulations: the use of filters that hide part of the display, disabling of mouse events, filters and a screen reader that reads text aloud. As for the hearing impaired, it is provided a noise generator. This simulation is only active when loading video. For the cognitive disabilities it is performed a distraction simulation, with images moving over the text. Some of the simulations applied on the editable content are existing simulations that have been adapted for the use with the editor AlloyEditor. For this project it has been used the knowledge acquired in the course of Human Factors and Computing and Web Oriented Computing course. On the subject of Human Factors and Computing the following knowledge has been acquired: basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JQuery and JavaScript and explanations about accessibility at the accessibility session. In the course of Web Oriented Computing it was acquired the following knowledge: advanced knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JQuery and JavaScript.
