El dolor del parto y la elección (o no) de la epidural. Narrativas de mujeres alrededor del parto hospitalizado en Catalunya.

Abstract

El presente artículo analiza la tensión y los conflictos generados por el rápido proceso de medicalización del parto en las últimas décadas en Catalunya. Este proceso ha provocado un debate acerca del parto medicalizado versus el parto natural. Tomando como marco contextual este debate, el presente estudio pretende aportar nuevos datos etnográficos que comprueben su grado de influencia en la experiencia y elecciones de las mujeres en el momento del parto, y especialmente en la forma de gestionar el dolor. En este artículo se describirá el dolor del parto a través de las narrativas de mujeres que han parido en los últimos años, para analizar, a partir de dicha descripción, qué motivos e influencias se encuentran tras la elección o no, de la analgesia epidural. Se ha elegido esta técnica obstétrica, porque su introducción en los hospitales es muy reciente, y porque genera controversia entre las mujeres. Esta investigación atañe a la salud de la mujer, pero también afecta a la forma cómo se concibe el parto, y las posibles transformaciones en las cosmovisiones así como en la atención hospitalaria, fruto del debate entre diferentes tipos de parto.
