Polifenols, gestació i lactància

Abstract

[eng] Polyphenols are compounds present abundantly in the diet, specifically in vegetables, and are recognized for their potential health benefits. Objectives: This work analyzes the impact, both positive and negative, of polyphenols during pregnancy and lactation, regarding the mother and the baby. Methods: The review is based on a search of reviews published between 2020 and 2024, from which 22 articles have been extracted. Results: The results show a positive relationship between the consumption of polyphenols, especially resveratrol, and the stages of pregnancy and lactation. A clear example is that during lactation, polyphenols can reduce the risk of complications in pregnant women, such as gestational diabetes mellitus. Conclusions: They help to improve maternal conditions such as preeclampsia and influence fetal development; however, their effects on the baby through breast milk are limited. Further studies are needed to understand the mechanisms of action and confirm these benefits.
