Los continuos avances sobre la etiología de la enfermedad periodontal y el reconocimiento de la gran importancia que una serie de factores de sus­ceptibilidad tienen sobre el inicio y progresión de la enfermedad llevan a estudiar a fondo los posibles factores de riesgo. La enfermedad periodontal es una infección que se asocia con patógenos específicos que colonizan el área subgingival. El inicio y pro­gresión de la enfermedad periodontal está modifi­cada por factores locales (restauraciones defectuo­sas ... ) y sistémicos, que se llaman factores de riesgo...
