Paisaje Urbano y Sostenibilidad

Abstract

[eng] Throughout history, urban centers have been centers where civilization has developed. Today we know that most of the world’s inhabitants live in cities and as a consequence of this, a model of disorderly and uncontrollable urban growth has developed, which precisely because of the disproportionate increase in population, has brought with it a series of problems to the demographic growth that has not been directly proportional to the growth of infrastructures, housing and services. Cities have become spaces where the use of automobiles prevails, there is evidence of degradation in peripheral neighborhoods, lack of sources of employment, low access to basic services and pollution. Today we can affirm that efforts are being made by the policies of international organizations and the population to work on the construction of more sustainable cities, seeking a conciliation between urbanization and sustainability, in addition to generating regeneration processes involving all the actors involved. Public space is a reflection of the diversity of its inhabitants and, of course, of the plans and urban policies that are carried out in it. It is for this reason that spaces have to respond to the needs of users, providing them with better conditions and making them more inclusive in search of cohesion and appropriation. This research will address the urban regeneration processes developed in the axis of the Besòs river and the Bon Pastor neighborhood in the city of Barcelona. From this experience, the aim is to show whether these urban regeneration processes have been based on a sustainability strategy and how they have materialized in the public space and the urban landscape of the territory. Finally, a proposal for the improvement of the urban landscape of the neighborhood with sustainability criteria is proposed.
