Abstract

Chronic childhood illnesses have a big emotional impact on affected children and their families. The purpose of to the hospital pedagogy, focused on emotional education, is to respond to the emotional, educational, personal and social needs that arise, in this case, in foster homes. An activity program has been designed as a proposal to improve the emotional education for the Ronald McDonald Barcelona Shelter, where children with this type of illness and their families live together. This has been named “McDona-li canya a les emocions!". The main goal is to improve emotional well-being through the following strategies: storytelling, music, games, physical activity and relaxing activities. These will lead them to developing skills to negotiate, coping with complex situations, generating positive feelings, being aware of emotions and knowing how to express them as well. These activities are meant to be done by large groups, where every participant has to collaborate with the rest. The teacher of the foster home is in charge of the session, who has to make sure that the assembly is energetic enough and also has to evaluate each attendee's participation, interaction with the others and the emotional feeling before and after. The program provides also a pedagogical tool applicable in any context of theory-based foster homes, flexible and with resources designed for each activity. There should be a pilot session before the final running of the activities to observe its suitability and to confirm that this program is an effective tool for its purpose.
