Reginalidad Filomendicante en la Corona de Aragón: La Reina María de Castilla y el Monasterio de la Santísima Trinidad de Valencia

Abstract

Tal como se enuncia en el título, este es un trabajo de reginalidad medieval. Por ello, el ejemplo que aquí se plantea, María de Castilla y la fundación del monasterio de la Trinidad de Valencia, va a ser analizado desde la perspectiva de la acción política y social de la reina, proyectándola en un marco más amplio de estudio, el de la obra política de las soberanas medievales y del potencial que en ella jugó la promoción espiritual. Este trabajo se incluye, además, en una línea de investigación puntera que subraya la filomendicancia de la familia real aragonesa –en especial de las mujeres y preferiblemente en favor del franciscanismo–, como una opción conscientemente sostenida y de amplias consecuencias. De esta manera, el objetivo principal ha sido analizar y entender el proceso fundacional de la Santísima Trinidad de Valencia desde una perspectiva política que permita esclarecer las estrategias empleadas que la reina, sabedora de su poder, autoridad e influencia, utilizó para culminar con éxito la obra de su monasterio. Para ello, se han estudiado tres registros de cancillería inéditos de entre 1447-1458, que recogen información de gran interés para comprender las iniciativas tomadas por María de Castilla con la finalidad de financiar su proyecto predilecto.
