Los concilios eclesiásticos hispanos del Imperio Romano cristiano

Abstract

A partir de la crítica textual e histórica aplicada a los testimonios existentes acerca de la actividad sinodal hispana1, exponemos a continuación los resultados alcanzados para su período inicial2, el comprendido entre los años 312 (gobierno de todo Occidente por Constantino I) y 409 (entrada en la Península Ibérica de suevos, vándalos y alanos). Nuestro estudio de este conjunto documental, actualmente constituido sólo por una ínfima parte de un acervo que fue muy copioso, se basa en un enfoque principalmente histórico-prosopográfico. En primer lugar, tomamos en consideración la cuestión de la asamblea iliberritana: para dilucidar su historicidad y datación, que situamos poco después de 325, debe acudirse necesariamente a la lista episcopal vinculada con ella. Hasta los años 378-380 no volvemos a disponer de información relativa a concilios hispanos. A este segmento cronológico corresponde el primer sínodo hispano del cual conocemos, en mayor o menor medida, tanto sus participantes como sus disposiciones. Zaragoza I genera, además, actuaciones o tentativas conciliares acontecidas durante los años ochenta, no únicamente en Hispania...

El libro completo recoge las contribuciones que colegas y discípulos dedican a José Remesal con motivo de su jubilación como catedrático de Historia Antigua de la Universidad de Barcelona. El contenido es, forzosamente, heterogéneo dada la cantidad de participantes y la diversidad de campos de conocimiento que abarca: de la historia del Próximo Oriente a la antigüedad tardía, de la historia económica a la social, pasando por las instituciones y el derecho. Este hecho refleja la amplitud del magisterio del profesor Remesal, cuyos discípulos trabajan en ámbitos de investigación muy diferentes.
