Abstract

In the relationship between cinema and painting there are two great alternatives: the cinematic treatment that the artist and his work have experienced, and the influence that this work might have on certain film productions. The first encompasses three areas: documentary, fiction and essay, while the second is much more open and even debatable, expressly or implied, relating to formal or thematic aspects. How those options have been developed in relation to the figure and work of Hieronymus Bosch is the purpose of this article, whether in the context of the historical trajectory of documentary or film art, of its branches to the film essay or the various possibilities of filmic fiction, from the nonexistent biopic to formal and thematic inspiration or the inclusion of his work in various films.
