(cast) En este trabajo se revisan las principales teorías que existen sobre el sector financiero en la ciencia económica. Se analizan las contribuciones de las principales escuelas económicas a la comprensión del sistema financiero y se hace una crítica de la poca atención prestada por la síntesis neoclásica y su posterior desarrollo del papel desestabilizador que desempeña en la economía. Finalmente, la deuda se introduce en el modelo macro de tres ecuaciones para observar su efecto en el ciclo económico.
(eng) This paper reviews the main theories that exist about the financial sector in economic science. The contributions of the main economic schools to the understanding of the financial system are analyzed and a critique is drawn of the little attention paid by the neoclassical synthesis and its subsequent development to the destabilizing role it plays in the economy. Finally, debt is introduced in the three-equation macro model in order to observe its effect on the business cycle.
