[eng] Far from being merely a tactical movement, eurocommunism was a strategic conception, which popularity skyrocketed in the second half of the 70s. However, we should take into account that eurocommunism had a long period of precedents, that dates back to the 50s and the 60s. This article aims to explain the adoption of eurocommunism by the PCE and the PSUC, as well as tries to explain its main effects upon both parties. As we will see, eurocommunism was a phenomenon intimately associated with the ultimate crisis of both political parties at the end of the Transición. Thus, if we want to figure out the process that led both parties to its practical demise in the 80s, it seems to be a core necessity studying eurocommunism in the one hand, and understanding its effects upon the PCE and the PSUC.
