Sobre complexitat gramatical i complexitat de processament

Abstract

In this paper we briefly review a central question for present-day theoretical linguistics: to what extent are the mechanisms underlying linguistic knowledge independent of the mechanisms involved in language processing? In order to articulate a minimally solid and detailed answer to this question, we illustrate some patterns related to grammatical complexity minimization and other patterns related to processing complexity minimization. Finally, we present several arguments according to which it is not possible to reduce grammatical complexity restrictions merely to parsing complexity restrictions, and vice versa. Nonetheless, we will leave whether a unifying theory is possible as an open question.
