Els espermatozoides dels ratolins promiscus corren més

Abstract

Les diferents espècies de ratolí es distingeixen, entre altres característiques, per la seva estratègia reproductora. El ratolí cérvol, per exemple, que viu a Amèrica del Nord, és molt promiscu. Per aparellar-se organitza una mena d'orgia on els mascles i les femelles van realitzant còpules successives, i canvien de parella cada pocs minuts. El ratolí de camp nord-americà, en canvi, d'aspecte molt similar, és monògam, amb parelles que duren tota la vida. Hopi E. Hoekstra i els seus col·laboradors del Howard Hughes Medical Institute de Cambridge, als EUA, i de la Universitat de Maryland, han analitzat la relació que hi ha entre aquestes estratègies reproductores i l'estructura i mobilitat dels espermatozoides. Els resultats, que han publicat a la plataforma digital BioRxiv, indiquen que els espermatozoides dels ratolins promiscus són molt més ràpids que els dels monògams, cosa que demostra la importància que té el comportament reproductor en l'evolució de les espècies. L'anàlisi d'aquests espermatozoides pot contribuir al desenvolupament de noves estratègies per tractar determinats casos d'infertilitat masculina en humans. [...]
