Abstract

La piegatura dello stelo è il principale problema postraccolta per la maggior parte delle cultivar di gerbera. L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è stato di studiare questo fenomeno approfondendo il comportamento fisiologico di 17 cultivar di gerbere in relazione alla comparsa della piegatura. Durante le prove, sono state misurate la variazione di peso, il consumo idrico, l’allungamento dello stelo a diverse distanze dal capolino e la durata postraccolta. I risultati hanno mostrato l’assenza di una correlazione tra l’allungamento dello stelo, l’andamento del peso, il consumo idrico e la comparsa della piegatura dello stelo. Contemporaneamente si è dedotto che l’allungamento non è da interpretare come un fenomeno negativo per la conservazione avendo calcolato una correlazione positiva (r = 0,63; P<0.01) tra allungamento e comparsa della piegatura. L’incidenza della piegatura è risultata variare da specie a specie, per cui la riduzione del problema può essere attenuata mediante un’accurata scelta della cultivar. Infine, il miglioramento genetico deve orientarsi verso la selezione e l’utilizzo di cultivar che non manifestano la piegatura per la costituzione di nuove cultivar.
